The U.S. Senate will soon consider the National Defense Authorization Act (the DoD appropriations bill) of 2017, which contains funding for the Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) as well as funding for other important medical research initiatives.

The OCRP, which has been funded annually in the amount of $20 million, provides money for innovative, high-risk, high-reward ovarian cancer research each year.

Unfortunately, this year's appropriations bill contains language (sections 765 and 898) that could effectively wipe out the OCRP.

Please help us tell the Senate that the OCRP is important!

You can TAKE ACTION by:

1. Emailing a letter to your U.S. Senators and asking them to vote for Amendment 4369 (the Durbin amendment) which would remove sections 756 and 898 from the bill. To contact your Senators with an online letter, go to http://cqrcengage.com/ovarian/ and click on Action Alert.

2. Calling the U.S. Senate switchboard (202-224-3121) and asking to speak with the health care legislative assistant for each of your senators (in Oregon, they are Senator Ron Wyden and Senator Jeff Merkley; in Washington, they are Senator Patty Murray and Senator Maria Cantrell). Again, ask for support of Amendment 4369 which would remove sections 756 and 898 from the bill.
