September 5, 2010 Eugene Women's Half-Marathon.
- On Sunday, September 5, 2010 in Eugene, OR, our Team Teal will be represented in the first annual
Eugene Women's Half Marathon. Those of you registering for the Half Marathon have the option of

October 25, 2009 NED Rock Concert at the Crystal Ballroom.
- The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of OR/SW WA filled two tables for the dinner preceding the long-awaited NED Rock Concert. Our very own Portland gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Will Winter, was one of the stars. A great concert for a great cause!
October 19, 2009 Grand Rounds at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine
- Dr. Colleen McCormick (gynecologic oncologist with Northwest Cancer Specialists),Martha Richards, Diane Elizondo, and Diane O'Connor presented at Grand Rounds at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine. The topic was: Survivor and clinical perspectives on ovarian cancer.
August 1, 2009 The Sherie Hildreth Empowerment Walk, Gladstone, OR
- The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and SW Washington was once again a sponsor in this 5th annual event in Gladstone, OR. All proceeds from the Walk are donated to ovarian cancer research at OHSU, under the direction of Dr. Tanja Pejovic. Many ovarian cancer survivors turned out for the Walk with friends, family, and dogs.

Seattle, WA
- RuthAnne Weisbard and Diane O'Connor from the Good Samaritan gynecologic cancer support group both walked in this annual event which raises money for the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research in Seattle.
July 7-10, 2009: Ovarian Cancer National Alliance conference
Washington, DC
- Diane O'Connor, Becky Coulson, and Amy Miller, of Vancouver; Cheryl Jackson, Laura Bernards, and Terri Noyes of Portland; and Donna Blankenship of Bend attended the conference together. In addition, we participated in Capitol Hill Day where we met with our legislators and health legislative aides to advocate for more funding for ovarian cancer.

May 2, 2009: STS Training Honolulu, HI

Diane O'Connor and Diane Elizondo trained 7 ovarian cancer survivors in Honolulu to speak with 3rd year medical students at the University of Hawaii about ovarian cancer. This is the newest STS (Survivors Teaching Students) program in the country. We are very proud that we could assist in making this program a reality! Currently there are over 60 STS programs throughout the nation. STS is a signature program of the Ovarian Cancer National Allliance.
April 26, 2009: WOCA: Women's Ovarian Cancer Awareness,
Salem, OR
- Deborah Dionesotes of Salem, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008, created and organized this event . It consisted of speakers from the medical community and the ovarian cancer survivor community, live music, and a silent auction, as well as appetizers and beverages. All donations benefit the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and SW Washington and the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research in Seattle. The photo shows Diane Elizondo, Deb Dionesotes, and Diane O'Connor at our exhibit table. Thank you, Deb, for a wonderful event!
October 25, 2008: Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon & SW Washington Volunteers Luncheon

- We honored 25 of our wonderful volunteers at a luncheon at the Kennedy School in Northeast Portland. Diane Dennis, author of the new book, The Hourglass: How to Live as Time Flies By, was our keynote speaker.

- The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and SW Washington was proud to be a part of this wonderful event. Brochures and symptom cards for ovarian cancer were a part of every survivor's gift bag at the luncheon. Several of our members have survived both breast and ovarian cancer.
September 4, 2008: Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research Biennial Symposium,
Seattle, WA
- The Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research biennial symposium was attended by Ann Werner, Cheryl Jackson, Karla Theer, and Diane O'Connor. The presenters were scientists and doctors in the field of ovarian cancer.
August 2, 2008:

- The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and SW Washington was once again a bronze sponsor in this 4th annual event in Gladstone, OR. All proceeds from the Walk are donated to ovarian cancer research at OHSU, under the direction of Dr. Tanja Pejovic.
July 28 and 29, 2008:
Cancer Summit, Portland, OR
- Cancer Care Resources staged its first annual Cancer Summit at the Convention Center in Portland. It addressed both cancer survivors as well as business leaders and policy makers. The focus was on cancer survivorship issues. Diane O'Connor participated on a panel discussing "Cancer Advocacy."

The 14th annual Swedish SummeRun, Seattle, WA
- Vicki Neilson of Washougal again took part in the annual Swedish SummeRun in Seattle on July 27. This popular event raises money for the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research in Seattle.

- The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and SW Washington bought a table at the annual Cancer Care Resources Benefit. Cancer Care Resources offers services to all cancer patients in the Portland metropolitan area.

- The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and Southwest Washington was a bronze sponsor in the 3rd annual Sherie Hildreth Empowerment Walk in Gladstone on August 4, 2007. We are seen here with Dr. Tanja Pejovic of OHSU, whose research on ovarian cancer benefits from the proceeds of the event.

Survivors Teaching Students, Portland, OR
- On July 24 the Survivors Teaching Students spoke with Dr. Joyce Zerwekh's nursing school students at Concordia University concerning the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. We also speak to the nursing school students at Linfield, OHSU, and the University of Portland as well as to the nurse practitioner students at WSU-Vancouver and to all 3rd year medical students at OHSU on their ob/gyn rotation. This is part of a national program through the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.
Sunday, July 22, 2007: Swedish SummeRun, Seattle, WA
- Vicki Neilson and her husband, Derrill Neilson, of Washougal took part in the annual Swedish SummeRun in Seattle on July 22, 2007. This popular event raises money for the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research in Seattle, Washington.
July 11, 2007: Capitol Hill Day at the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Conference, Washington DC.
- Karla Theer of Battle Ground and Diane O'Connor of Vancouver meet with Washington State Congressman Brian
Baird to advocate for $9 million for Johanna's Law; The Gynecologic Cancer Awareness and Education Act; $20
million for the Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program; $6.5 million for the Ovarian Cancer
Control Initiative in CDC (Center for Disease Control); and a 6.7% increase for NIH/NCI budget to support
research, including clinical trials, early detection and treatment methods.

November 7, 2006: KGW TV News Health Report at 5pm
- On Nov. 7, Diane O'Connor, Diane Elizondo, and Karie Shinn of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Orgeon and SW Washington were featured by Stephanie Stricklen, KGW news reporter, in her health segment about ovarian cancer. This highlighted the national "Survivors Teaching Students" program in which ovarian cancer survivors serve as educators for 3rd year medical students, in this case at OHSU in Portland.

over the country to learn from top experts in the ovarian cancer field. This was the 5th year some of us have attended this outstanding conference.

Aug. 5, 2006: Mrs. Hildreth Ovarian Cancer Empowerment Walk, Gladstone, OR
- Sherie Hildreth is an ovarian cancer survivor in Gladstone who organized her 2nd annual walk/run to raise money for Ovarian Cancer research at OHSU. The event was a huge success with many ovarian cancer survivors participating in the walk and the special survivor breakfast afterwards.
