A newly diagnosed cancer patient is overwhelmed and in shock, no matter what kind of cancer it is. How people closest to us react and try to encourage us can be either helpful or devastating. A person who is diagnosed at a stage of cancer that can only be controlled but not cured is not helped by, “You’ll be fine, you’re going to beat this!”.
