Update to In Her Own Words dated April 2014. Read 2014’s here.
I have been very healthy these eight years. I went back to my oncologist every six months for five years. He wanted me to keep my port “— just in case I had a recurrence, since I was at the point where the cancer could recur. And if I did, it would be difficult to treat.” I told him that he would eat his words. Well, I passed the five-year mark, and my port came out. I see my oncologist once a year. He still talks about my progress. He has said, “It wasn’t supposed to go this way.” But he is always extremely happy that I am doing so well. My name has come up in the morning reports. My doctor has eaten his words!
Life has gone on. I am very busy pet sitting, as well as volunteering at the same retirement community for almost 10 years now. Now that I am in my 70’s, I am considering moving to a retirement community. I haven’t done much traveling, but I did make it to my 50th high school reunion in Chicago. And I saw my Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016!
